Devlog #6 - Dialogue System, mostly just that, haha.


Heyo, going to be discussing some stuff I've been working on for the past week or so. 

It's been all about the dialogue system in the game. This will be pretty fun to discuss at least. What's been happening with this? Take a look at the example so far:


Taking a look at the video, you can see the fade in for the speech bubble, and fade out after the text ends. Players can click to end the text immediately, and it will fade out after the dialogue ends. Simple dialogue, right? I mean, there will be more to this system in the future, but let me explain what I'm going to add to this system.

Idle animations via talking.

Kinda a big one for me. Instead of someone just standing there looking silly, characters will have idle animations when talking, and when the text is moving, characters will move according to the text speed. This will look nicer and overall better to the dialogue system.

Different dialogues that can be randomized for NPCs.

This sounds weird, but there are pre-written dialogues, and it will select one dialogue out of 3 to choose if you have already interacted with some NPC on the road. For example, if you already talked with someone, and keep speaking to them, they won't keep repeating "hello there!"

They could give you 3 other options than just saying hello. Though, they can say hello again, there are other options to make dialogue feel more fresh and have characters feel more alive.

Choices for dialogues.

Of course, I'm going to make it to where you can choose an option for a speech bubble, what if you want to say something else if someone insults you? Alright, don't worry. I got you, this will be an option.

A lot more will be added to this game when it comes to the dialogue, but for now, I have this to share, I got the basics done with the dialogue system. So far, it's working just fine.

I've been working on the player controller, the dialogue, writing, and well, mostly college too. But I'm getting back into the groove of the project. Hopefully you all enjoy it here. I know you're probably asking, where are the other devlogs too? You can find them on Steam if you'd like to read up on them.

This was truly all I wanted to share for now, this is what I have been working on, and what I wanted to add. I have been working on some weather aspects of the game too, such as rain. This is working well too. I added some saving system, hopefully it's working for others when released. It works for me for now, woo. It's gonna be a PAIN, but I'm dedicated.
